Would you recommend this book to your colleagues? Why or why not?

  1. Yes. Most of the contests at the high school level involve more than one subject. I think it would be a great resource for a joint Math/Science club to learn how to compete across disciplines. It gives teachers lots of options and ideas. Even if we never do any more of the contests than we already do (FIRST and JETS) we have ideas we can use in our classes.

  2. I would recommend the book for the Academic Competitons and websites available. I think there are many great ideas for the upper grades. This book shows sites out their that can help enchance the students learning. However, if the book would of had some success stories, samples and some more reading resources found on page 9-23 Chapter 1 that would of been benefical. I am glad to have the resource book.

  3. I would recommended to my 5th grade friends and my middle school friends because they have SOOOO many competitions for them. For Elementary, I will just tell them the few that I found.

  5. I would definitely recommend this book to my colleagues. The variety of competitions alone make it worthwhile. Although we do not have a high gifted population at my school, I think that many of these competitions are appropriate for all students, so all educations can benefit from including them in their curriculum.

  6. I would definitely recommend this book to my collegues. It was a great collection of websites to explore. I found it very enlightening and never realized that competiton is a great way to bring the GT students to a new level. I liekd it for our school where we do have a lot of gifted because sometimes they come into the fifth grade with an "entitled" aura to them because they have been with the same students for so long. Competing with students of the unknown is a great way for them to really put out a huge effort to show their "stuff!" I am excited to use some of these next year!

  8. I agree that student connectedness and positive home/school relationships are critical. Christmas concerts are certainly good for public relations.
